Cancer Prevention & Early Detection...
Larger Text | Smaller Text

Are you at risk for
developing cancer?

While some cancers are inherited or caused by unknown factors, as many as one-third of all U.S. cancer deaths could be prevented through better nutrition, increased exercise, stopping smoking, and lifetime weight control. Regular screening examinations by a health care professional can also help to find cancers in their earliest stages, when treatment is more likely to be successful.

Kettering Medical Center is pleased to offer a variety of free educational presentations about cancer prevention and early detection, cancer treatments, and resources at various Kettering Health Network hospitals and health centers. To request a cancer awareness presentation at your worksite, church, or civic group, or for more information about cancer screening dates and locations, please call Cancer Services at (937) 395-8115.

  • Cancer Awareness Presentations - to request a guest speaker on cancer-awareness and early detection, please call KMC Cancer Services at 395-8115. Topics include: sun safety and skin cancer awareness, breast self-exam and breast cancer awareness, colon and rectal cancer awareness, the PSA blood test and prostate cancer, and more.

  • Cancer Risk Profiles - a personal look at your family and personal health history, your health habits, and possible ways to reduce your risk for certain cancers. Available by appointment and at selected health fairs.

  • City Wide Skin Cancer Screening – Each May, KMC participates in the annual City Wide Skin Cancer Screening with Wright State University School of Medicine and the American Cancer Society. Call for current dates and times.

  • Colon and Rectal Cancer Screening – hidden blood in the bowel movement is just one possible sign of colon and rectal cancer. KMC offers hemoccult test kits during national Colon and Rectal Cancer Awareness activities in March and during various health fairs throughout the year. Call for current dates and times.

  • Prostate Cancer Screening – KMC offers annual educational sessions and PSA blood tests each September at various locations in the greater Dayton area. Call for current dates and times.
